I WAS IN THE PAPER FOR QUIZBOWL. XD


"A team from -insert school name- correctly answered dozens of questions about history, grammar, science, math and the arts to win the 2008-09 Junior Quiz Bowl Tournament on Saturday.

Members of the winning team are students -insert names here-.

"We're ecstatic. This was totally unexpected," said the team's sponsor, Eileen Rhoades.

Rhoades said Saturday marked only the second time the team has played as a whole, because the regular matches are often on Thursday evenings. That presented a scheduling conflict for quiz bowl team members who also participate in sports, Rhoades said.

"I'm just so proud of them," she said with a grin.

In the final round of the tournament, the Edgar Martin team pulled ahead of a team from Fatima by answering toss-up questions, in which a member of either team can buzz in to answer. If a team member gets the answer right, that team is asked four bonus questions worth a total of 20 points.

In addition, the tournament includes lightning rounds, in which each team is given definitions and must supply the correct word, with all of the words beginning with the same letter.

Fatima tied the score after two complete rounds, but stumbled in the final lightning round, allowing Edgar Martin to take the lead for good.

The event is the longest-running community program for the Junior League of Lafayette, said League member Stephenie Geiger, chairwoman for the Junior Quiz Bowl committee.

"It's all about the kids," she said. "This is a great way to give back to the community. The teams are always good, and we always see good sportsmanship among the teams." "

It's funny. In the whole quizbowl thing, my school and our 'rivals', PB [the gifted school.. x__x] are the only public schools.. All the other [8? 10? maybe more?] schools are private. xD <3
